WHAT IS DRAINAGE?

Drainage is raw water and untreated wastewater containing solids no larger than 12 mm. Houses built with a basement or cellar generally need an exterior drainage system to prevent moisture causing rot and other serious damage. The drain pipes should be connected to a drain well or pump pit fitted with a drainage pump.

WHAT IS EFFLUENT?

Effluent is water and untreated wastewater (excluding toilet discharge) containing fibres and solids, such as that from a kitchen disposal unit.

WHAT IS SEWAGE?

Sewage is untreated wastewater containing fibres, textiles and other solids, including toilet discharge, from domestic sewage systems, farms, and industry. To avoid clogging it is recommended that there is free passage for solids up to 65-80 mm.
