RAINWATER HARVESTING

The harvesting of rainwater simply involves the collection of water from surfaces on which rain falls, and subsequently storing this water for irrigation. Normally, water is collected from the roofs of buildings and stored in rainwater tanks. However, water can also be collected in dams from rain falling on the ground and producing run-off. Rain collecting surfaces, also called catchment areas, are:

  • Roofs
  • Roads
  • Paved areas

The collected and stored rainwater is ideal for irrigation or applications such as toilet, washing machines, and car washing. These solutions are suitable for installation in:

  • Private, single or multi-family households
  • Summer houses and weekend cottages
  • Shopping malls
  • Schools and office buildings
  • Hospitals and nursing homes
  • Market gardens and other large gardens

Grundfos submersible pumping solutions range from basic submersible pressure-boosting pumps to complete pressure-boosting management systems.

Ask your local authority about the regulations for usage of rainwater in your area.

GRUNDFOS SB RANGE - COMPLETE PACKAGE

The SB pump is a submersible pump designed for the pumping of clean water for domestic applications. For rainwater applications, the SB pump is supplied with a side inlet, which includes a flexible suction hose and a floating suction strainer, with 1 mm perforation. The pump is available with or without a float switch, which can be used for dry-running protection of the pump. The SB can be combined with a Grundfos Pressure Manager to control the pump.

GRUNDFOS SPO RANGE - WIDE RANGE IN STAINLESS STEEL

The SPO pump is a submersible pump constructed in stainless steel designed for the pumping of clean water for domestic and commercial applications. The SPO pump with side inlet can also be dry-installed outside the rainwater collecting tank, as the motor is cooled by the pumped liquid. For rainwater applications, the SPO pump is supplied with a side inlet. The pump is available with or without a float switch. The float switch can be used for dry-running protection of the pump. The SPO pump can be combined with a Grundfos Pressure Manager to control the pump.

THE BENEFITS OF HARVESTING RAINWATER

  • Reduces pressure on the sewer at peak loads, which lessens the risk of flooding
  • Saves up to 50% of the drinking water, by directing the rainwater to purposes that do not require drinking water quality
  • Reduces limescale build-up and prolongs the life of appliances, because rainwater is soft water

Grundfos can supply dry-installed, submerged and combined solutions that turn rainwater in a collecting tank into a reliable source of water for domestic and commercial applications.
